Trending in Bathrooms

Showhome Editor, Anna Wood, takes a deep dive into the bathroom trends that will be making a splash this year, and what will be sinking

With the ushering in of the new year, brand new trends are making their way into every market, and those for bathrooms are especially exciting.

Of course, with the high costs associated in a bathroom renovation, these aren’t completed on a regular basis, but the new year is the perfect time for a refresh. A style refresh is always a good idea for housebuilders in order to keep up with desirable interior trends, as well as refresh the types of homes on offer. The regular homeowner is tired of basic bathroom designs that can be found everywhere and are starting to look for livelier interiors. “Homeowners are increasingly looking to express more of their personality in the bathroom: it is no longer a utilitarian space devoid of colour and texture,” said Simon Bodsworth, Managing Director at Daval Furniture.

Whether the brand-new bathroom trends are related to design, innovations in sustainability, or even the technology that is up and coming in the bathroom sector, we have it all covered. Here, Showhome present a definitive list of bathroom trends for 2023 to highlight what consumers are after this year.

A spectrum of colour

It’s not surprising that colour is back in style in every room of the house for the new year. Not only are kitchens and living spaces getting a colour revival, the bathroom is as well! For a while, the bathroom has remained a neutral space in the home, where experimentation is kept to a minimum, and neutral colours and white ceramics have continued to reign supreme. Though, nowadays the home has transformed itself. It has become a place to be proud of and people are more willing to experiment with design and styles as they wish to reflect their personality in their own home and have a unique environment.

Some of the key colours in the upcoming bathroom colour wave will be blues, greens and pastel tones like peaches. For those not willing to commit to an entire kaleidoscope of colour in the bathroom, utilising pops of colour brings colour into the room, but with a more subtle approach. Whether this be in the form of colourful art brought into the room, or colourful brassware, colour can be brought into the bathroom in large and small quantities. There are other accessible options too. The adoption of neutral tones in their ceramics, rather than stark whites that have been traditional for so long is a way of eliminating the amount of white used in the bathroom.

Not only are bright colours a big trend for 2023, but darker colours in the spectrum are having their time to shine too. Darker, gothic colours are often associated with more luxury interiors. The bathroom is a place where luxury lends itself well to. A room in the home that is exclusively for feeling luxurious means that darker interiors are a welcome addition, as well as making way for the beautiful contrast of brass brassware with deeper tones like forest greens and royal purples.

Rob Holroyd, Contracts Manager at Easy Projects commented on this exclusively for Showhome: “Dark and moody, modern gothic will be gracing our bathroom designs in 2023. Replacing the sweetness of Cottagecore, modern gothic is about embracing the darker side to interiors, with inky blues, greens and blacks. It is overdramatic but in a good way and what better way to bring it to life than in a bathroom, which lends itself to drama and maximalism. New elements for 2023 will see the dark, rich colours associated with gothic but with new features such as industrial or Scandi noir elements for new twist on an old classic.”
