Fast move to a stylish new home at Saxon Fields for Cullompton’s Steve and Lyndsay

DW Saxon fields case study

A spontaneous decision to find out about buying a new home, instead of renting, prompted a whole new chapter in the lives of Steve Pilkington and Lyndsay Radford.

The couple were happy renting close to Cullompton but decided to look into what they might be able to afford to buy on the other side of town. After looking at several new developments in the area, they came across David Wilson Homes’ Saxon Fields.

“We found the quality of this development to be better than anything we’d seen,” said Steve (38). “In particular we loved the layout between the plots – and the open space in front of the house we looked at. The size of the garden was excellent too.

“Saxon Fields is a small and exclusive development from a big name housebuilder – and that seems to be pretty rare at the moment. We didn’t realise we’d be able to afford to buy a home in a place like this, but then we found out about Help to Buy.”

The scheme is available on all new-build homes up to £600,000, and buyers become owners with just a five percent deposit of the property value of their new home. Many lenders are able to offer loan-to-value mortgage because the UK Government provides a guarantee of up to 15 percent.

“It was fantastic – we just couldn’t have made that first big step without it,” said Steve. “Applying was very easy too. Our mortgage advisor sorted all of that out for us. It was very quick and hassle-free. We chose the Oakfield house design because its layout suited our requirements perfectly.

“We moved from a 1960s three bedroom semi-detached house and – size-wise – the Oakfield matches and exceeds what we had before.”

Saxon Fields is an impressive development of three and four bedroom homes, situated on the outskirts of Cullompton. With only 32 private homes, there is plenty of greenery – making the development a tranquil location in which to put down roots. Just two miles from junction 28 of the M5 means easy links to Exeter and Taunton for commuters.

“We were already familiar with the local area, and wanted to stay here,” added Lyndsay (30). “The access routes to Exeter and Taunton are fantastic, and the town has everything we will ever need.

“This has been an exciting and worthwhile experience for us. The whole process was very pleasant, thanks to some excellent support from the David Wilson Homes team. We were handed the keys to our new home within two months of reserving it. And, what’s more, our mortgage is less than our rent would be for a similar property. We’re very happy here.”
