Lovell Homes charity fundraising

Housebuilder Lovell Homes has raised a total of £6755 for its charity of the year, Yorkshire-based charity Candlelighters.

The total raised is the culmination of a busy year of fundraising which saw the eastern region of Lovell Homes take part in various activities. These included a charity golf day and donations from show home furniture sales.

One of the most prominent fundraisers, Ellie Cockroft Quantity Surveyor at Lovell Homes, took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in a bid to raise money for the charity which does vital work supporting families affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire.

She completed the 25-mile circular route of the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 10 hours 46 minutes, raising more than £2,000 for the local charity, a figure which was matched by Lovell Homes.

Explaining why support for the charity was particularly special to her, Ellie said: “Candlelighters means a lot to my family as my daughter Millie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia shortly after her second birthday. During the two-and-a-half years of active treatment and the two years post-treatment, Candlelighters supported us greatly. So, it was great to see them chosen as Lovell Homes’ charity of the year.

“My husband and I knew we had to do something challenging to raise awareness of such a great cause. Completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks only seemed fitting, given the fantastic work the charity does supporting local Yorkshire families dealing with childhood cancer.”

Robert Adams, Regional Managing Director at Lovell Homes said: “Support for local charities is always something that is really important to us, but it’s particularly special when we can show our support for a cause that has such personal significance for a member of our team too.

“Candlelighters is a brilliant charity that provides great levels of care and support for families who are going through an exceptionally difficult and traumatic experience. The Lovell Homes team has worked incredibly hard over the past year to raise vital funds for the cause. But special mention goes to Ellie for all her efforts in tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks – certainly no mean feat.”

Founded in 1976, Candlelighters was set up by a group of parents and medical practitioners who recognised the need for support for local families dealing with childhood cancer. The charity brings light to families by providing emotional, practical, and financial support, and hope by investing in childhood cancer research.

Iain Blackwood Hobbs, Partnership Executive at Candlelighters said: “A big thank you to Ellie, her husband Adam and the rest of the Lovell Homes team for all their hard work. Each year we rely on the efforts of those who selflessly give up their time to raise funds for us. Without their efforts we simply would not be able to carry on doing the vital work we do across Yorkshire.

“The money raised will help to fund a wide variety of services, ranging from support groups and talking therapies to financial grants and holidays. We also fund a number of vital staff roles and supplies at Leeds Children’s Hospital, where most children in Yorkshire will receive treatment, as well as support out in the communities across the region and at our family support centre in Leeds. We are there from diagnosis and for as long as is needed and we work hard to help ordinary families through the most extraordinary circumstances.”
