Open Door Interiors success in Edgbaston

Tracy Baker, Managing Director, Open Door Interiors

Warwickshire-based interior design company, Open Door Interiors, is celebrating a milestone project win to provide their bespoke interior design service to Spitfire Homes’ multi-million pound, heritage development in Edgbaston, Birmingham.  This is a huge coup for the award-winning agency, who won the competitive pitch against three established national agencies.

The development is a flagship, £22 million, residential site for Spitfire Homes and will integrate the plot’s existing Weston House – the former residence of the Archbishop of Birmingham – and period stable block, alongside new build houses and apartments aimed squarely at the luxury end of the market, given Edgbaston (B15) is widely considered to be one of the most desirable postcodes in Birmingham.

The brief presented to the Open Door Interiors team incorporated the idea of creating an iconic and varied collection of individual properties situated within an exclusive community, taking into consideration the mix of traditional and modern buildings.  A challenge like this is not something the Open Door Interiors team take lightly, and they rose to it in a considered fashion, going above and beyond what had been asked of them.

Mood boards were created for each space by the ODI team – which celebrates its 12th year in business in 2021 – incorporating colour schemes, flooring suggestions, fabric swatches and a variety of furniture and accessory options, truly bringing the development to life.  A rare attention to detail was brought to the winning design and the ODI team referenced period features throughout, including the deco railings, which were reflected in wallpaper choices.  This eye for architectural reference points and detail is backed up with an equally considered choice of furnishings and accessories, sourcing, wherever feasible, unique, British-made pieces that reflect the space they will feature in.

Tracy Baker, Managing Director at Open Door Interiors, said: “We are ecstatic, as this is a massive win for Open Door Interiors – not least because it was a four-way competitive pitch, but also because we have such respect for the quality of Spitfire Homes’ developments.  At Open Door Interiors we take great care in ensuring we provide a bespoke service to all our clients and projects, so to have won this historic project is a hugely proud moment for the team and I.  Working with refurbishments and restoration projects can often present challenges, but it’s also a real thrill discovering original features and being able to incorporate them into our designs.”

Matt Vincent, Sales Director at Spitfire Homes, added: “We are delighted to be working with Tracy and the Open Door Interiors team on this project.  Their proposal was incredibly detailed and considered, taking in to account the varied elements of the development and bringing the spaces to life.  We look forward to the coming months and working collaboratively to showcase this beautiful development in a manner befitting Edgbaston’s history and grandeur.”
