Whirpool UK sponsors festival

Peterborough based Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited, the home of Hotpoint, Indesit, Whirlpool and KitchenAid brands, announces its sponsorship of the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival 2022.

Taking place on Saturday 11th June at the Peterborough Rowing Club, Thorpe Meadows, the festival will see approximately 40 teams compete in a dragon boat race on a 200-metre course. Each traditional and brightly coloured 30-foot dragon boat will be paddled by up to 10 people, plus one person sat at the back of each boat with a drum, beating the time for the rowers’ strokes. Several thousand spectators are expected to attend the event and the festival will also offer a range of bankside entertainment, family activities and food stalls.

The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, which is marking its 22nd anniversary this year, will be raising vital funds for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, the only specialist palliative inpatient unit in the city. The charity’s committed team of doctors, nurses and carers provide expert palliative care for people living with neurological conditions, as well as supporting family members of patients and those experiencing bereavement after the loss of a loved one. The Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice also offers a ‘Hospice at Home’ service, which provides patients living in communities in and around Peterborough with the opportunity to receive care in their own homes.

Whirlpool UK has supported the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice for a number of years. In addition to donating appliances, the company regularly takes part in fundraising activities to raise money for the charity. For example, colleagues from Whirlpool UK joined Sue Ryder’s ‘Treecycling’ campaign in January 2022, which saw volunteers collect real Christmas trees from homes across Peterborough, in exchange for a donation to the hospice.

Ian Moverley, Public Affairs Director, Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited says: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival again this year, and we hope to help raise as much money as possible for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival is set to be a fantastic day out for our colleagues and their families and friends, and we are thrilled to be able to raise funds and increase awareness for an extremely worthy cause that is close to the hearts of many of our colleagues at Whirlpool UK.”
