Persimmon Homes secures Armed Forces Employer award

Housebuilder Persimmon Homes has successfully secured a Silver Award in the Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme for the second time.

The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) encourages employers to support defence and inspire other organisations to do the same. The award, which will run for a further five years, recognises employers that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

Richard Latham, Group HR Director, Persimmon Homes, said: “Persimmon has been a proud signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant for a number of years. That is why we are particularly delighted to have again achieved a Silver Award in its Employer Recognition Scheme. We look forward to maintaining our engagement, including informing service personnel about the opportunities a career at Persimmon can provide. New recruits would join many other ex-service personnel who are already valued colleagues and demonstrate the benefits the Armed Forces Covenant brings to both our business and the individuals themselves.”

Pauline King, Regional Employer Engagement Director, RFCA for Yorkshire and the Humber said: “We are delighted that Persimmon has been recognised again at a national level for their continued support and commitment to their Defence personnel and the Armed Forces community. Initially granted the Defence ERS Silver Award in 2014, the award has this year been revalidated for a further five years. A very well-deserved award, and we look forward to working with Persimmon on their ERS journey to the Gold Award. Congratulations to everyone at Persimmon.”

Persimmon has a history of supporting the armed forces. One of the finalists in its recent Site Manager Awards joined the business through an initiative Persimmon undertook to train ex-service personnel in construction skills. Examples of Persimmon’s support include providing time off for training to colleagues who are Territorial Army members. Persimmon’s Talent Acquisition Strategy will continue to include programmes to encourage more ex-service personnel to join the business in a diverse range of roles.
