Designer Contracts sub-contract fitters have raised an incredible £40,000 for a skin cancer charity, by travelling the length of Scotland – on bikes. The ride saw ex-Scottish International footballer, Frank McGarvey and ex-Irish International, Patrick Bonner, visit all 12 Premiership football clubs in Scotland, totalling 500 miles over a week long period in aid of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust.
Ex-Scottish International footballer, Tommy Burns, died in 2008 at the age of 51 after being diagnosed with skin cancer in 2006. The charity was set up by his family after his death to help raise money and build awareness of the disease.
Frank commented: “The ride was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the disease and we attracted a lot of media coverage along the way which was fantastic. The aim is to raise a total of £110,000 which will fund a vehicle, driver and doctor and will travel throughout Scotland and help to diagnose skin cancer early.”
