Dancing up a Storm Creates Charity Cash

Staff at pioneering manufacturer Russell Roof Tiles raised £3,000 at its first “strictly” style live ballroom dancing competition “Dancing on the Tiles.”

Nine couples (all members of staff) from Russell Roof Tiles sites in Burton on Trent and Lochmaben participated in the event at Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton.

One of the judges was Mr Tony “Revel Horwood” Burke the Managing Director of UK`s largest roofing contractor Avonside and his wife Mrs Rita “Head Judge” Burke.  They were assisting by

MP for Burton Mr Andrew “Tonoli” Griffiths and his royal ballet trained wife Mrs Kate “Darcey” Griffiths.

The couples each did two dances in front of an audience of nearly 250 colleagues, friends and family.

The event raised money for Shropshire & Staffordshire Blood Bikes and Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes – volunteer-led charities that provide an urgent delivery service, transporting lifesaving medical supplies to NHS Foundations.   They are both Russells nominated charities for 2017.

Staff, friends and family travelled from across the country to support their colleagues. Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles comments, “It was fantastic event – all for a good cause and everyone got into the spirit of the event – and the nine couples have been practicing since Christmas so all took it very seriously.”

Andrew Hayward and his wife Coral were the winners on the night – winning the coveted Glitterball Trophy – which was created specifically for the event.

In 2016 generous staff at Russells raised an impressive £12,000 for Shropshire & Staffordshire Blood Bikes to buy a much-needed new motorbike plus £12,000 for Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes.

Celebrating its 50th birthday in 2015, Russells currently employs a team of 180 across its two factories in Burton and one in Lochmaben, near Lockerbie in Scotland.  The company manufactures a range of concrete roof tiles and fittings for the pitched roofing market, used on residential and commercial projects across the UK.
