Vistry submits plans for 216 homes

Vistry Group has submitted detailed plans to deliver a further 216 homes at the Great Oldbury location in Stonehouse.

The proposals include 151 properties to be sold on the open market, as well as 65 affordable homes to be made available to local people through low-cost rent and shared ownership.

The homes for private sale will comprise a mix of three and four-bedroom properties, with 108 to be sold under Vistry’s Bovis Homes brand and the other 43 to be marketed under the Linden Homes banner.

If approved by Stroud District Council, construction work on the new homes could get underway early next year.

Vistry acquired the site, located to the west of Grove Lane, in May with outline planning permission already in place. The scheme will represent the second phase of development by Vistry at Great Oldbury, where the housebuilder is already constructing 178 homes in phase one under its Linden Homes brand.

The development is part of a wider proposed scheme which has outline permission for up to 1,350 homes, a local centre, primary school and employment space.

Supriya Ray, Managing Director of Vistry Cotswolds, said: “Construction work on phase one at Great Oldbury is progressing well and we are on track to complete the final homes here by 2024. We have already welcomed many buyers into their new homes and earlier this summer we handed over the first of the 53 affordable properties being provided in this phase to housing association Bromford.

“Our proposals for a second phase of homes will extend our commitment to the wider neighbourhood until 2026, enabling us to deliver a range of additional much-needed housing for both the private market and affordable sector.

“The mix of three and four-bedroom houses for private sale has been tailored to the demand from local buyers, while 50 of the 65 affordable homes will be two-bedroom properties to help address the recognised shortage of such homes across the district.”
