James Rossiter, Senior Auction Valuer, Bond Wolfe discusses the best way to relax on the weekend, hosting dinner parties and what attracted him to the auction industry.
What attracted you to the auction industry?
The main thing that attracted me to the auction industry was the dynamic nature of the work. Every day is different—whether it’s meeting new people, working on new projects, or going to different places. There’s always something fresh and exciting, which keeps me motivated and engaged.
What’s the most rewarding part of your role at Bond Wolfe?
The most rewarding part of my role is being part of a successful team and contributing to its achievements. I find great satisfaction in seeing the hard work pay off, whether it’s through helping clients achieve great results or seeing the team hit new milestones.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to live in Barcelona. The city’s vibrant atmosphere and lively energy make it an incredibly appealing place to call home. There’s a unique blend of stunning architecture, a beach, and a buzzing cultural scene that creates an exciting vibe. The relaxed yet dynamic lifestyle, along with the fantastic food and rich history, would make Barcelona an ideal place for me.
What’s your favourite room in your home and why?
My favourite room in my home is probably the living room. It’s where I can relax and unwind, and although it’s a Victorian property with high ceilings, it still feels cosy and warm.
If you were hosting a dinner party, what would you cook to impress your guests?
If I were hosting a dinner party, I’d make a classic Sunday roast with all the trimmings— It’s a crowd-pleaser and can cater for all tastes! However, I’d probably have to enroll the help of my partner Alice who is an amazing cook!
Who is the one person, past or present, you’d most like to meet?
I’d love to meet Lewis Hamilton. His remarkable success in F1, along with his determination to push boundaries and make a positive impact off the track, is truly inspiring. I have great admiration for his resilience, and I’d love to hear about his experiences, both in racing and his efforts to promote important causes.
How do you usually spend your Sunday evenings?
Sunday evenings are all about relaxation for me. I like to enjoy a nice Sunday dinner with family or friends, followed by watching F1 or a good film. It’s the perfect way to unwind before the week ahead.
What’s your favourite holiday destination and why?
My favourite holiday destination would be anywhere with mountains. I find the scenery so calming and inspiring. Whether it’s skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer, there’s something about the mountains that makes it the ideal getaway for me.
What’s one professional goal you’re determined to achieve in the next few years?
My goal is to become the go-to person for all things property auctions. I want to expand my expertise and continue to make a strong impact in the industry, helping both my team and clients achieve their objectives with confidence.
What’s one piece of advice you would give someone starting out in the auction world?
One piece of advice I’d give to someone starting out in the auction world is to always be honest and transparent. In this industry, trust is vital, and being open and honest with clients, colleagues, and partners will help build strong, lasting relationships. If you’re ever unsure about something, it’s better to admit it and seek guidance rather than risk making assumptions. Honesty will help you earn respect and credibility, which are essential for long-term success.
