In this exclusive presentation at Showhome Live, titled ‘Historic town-inspired new-build developments’, Simon will be discussing placemaking and how looking at historic towns and villages provides inspiration in the design of City & Country’s new-build developments.
As Design & Planning Director, Simon and his team are responsible for the design of City & Country’s period conversion and new-build homes. With over 30 years’ design experience, he leads the design process – from initial evaluation and visualisation of a prospective site through the planning approval stages to delivery of the finished product.
Simon is passionate about fully understanding what makes historic buildings and the best English villages, towns and cities such great sustainable places to live. He believes there are many important lessons to be learnt from looking at the past. Understanding the context, carefully planning a site, considering scale and materials, and providing facilities for communities to develop and become sustainable are what really matter to him.
A Chartered Architect with the Royal Institute of British Architects, he studied architecture at the University of Portsmouth and then worked for various architectural firms on a wide range of projects including residential, educational, cultural and workplace, almost always with a link to historic buildings. After working as an external consultant for City & Country for a number of years, Simon joined the company in 2007 to head up the design team.
