Moores on track to reach carbon neutrality by 2025

Moores have long been an industry leader in sustainable manufacturing, regularly identifying new opportunities to reduce their impact on both the local and wider environment. The Yorkshire-based company is proud to champion ethical practice as one of its key pillars of commitment and seeks to encourage other manufacturers in the sector to become more responsible.

Environmental impact forms part of the company’s strategy, and through its 5 ‘R’ principles – Remove, Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle and Recovery – Moores consistently strives to minimise its carbon footprint throughout all areas of the business. As a result, this has reduced carbon emissions by 42% over the past eight years, which equates to a reduction of 22,818 tonnes of carbon dioxide (tCO2e), the equivalent of planting 142,613 trees.

To help meet their ambitious target of becoming carbon neutral by 2025, upgrades have been made to the factory and office space to reduce emissions. By changing more than 2000 standard light bulbs to smart LED’s and updating the old boiler to a brand new one that runs on biomass fuel has resulted in an impressive reduction of 410 tonnes of carbon (CO2e).

The £2,000,000 biomass boiler is central to the company’s sustainability roadmap, reinforcing its zero waste to landfill status which has been maintained since 2011. By doing this, Moores utilise the wood waste from kitchen production lines and recycling into biomass fuel to provide heat for the 600,000sq/ft site.
