The British Standards Institute (BSI) codes of practice state that all substrates should be waterproofed before tiling using a ‘suitable proprietary tanking membrane system’. A wise measure given that tiles, grout, plasterboard and adhesives are not always sufficient to stop water penetration. Adding a membrane to waterproof the area will help eliminate leaks and mitigate any possibility of damp and mould.
Of course, it adds time and cost to the construction of new showering spaces – in the form of added labour costs (to install the membrane), additional materials costs and extended installation time.
One of the benefits of installing Kinedo cubicles is that this particular regulation doesn’t apply. Thanks to the clever design of the units the assembly itself provides all the waterproofing required. Interior glass panels have a clever locating system that routes water to the inside edge of the tray and they are installed over upstands of the shower tray which ensures all water falls into the tray and towards the waste. This creates a watertight space that requires no tiles, no grout and no silicone. External panels and door are simply attached to complete the assembly. With anti-limescale coating to all glass surfaces, the units are also easy to clean and maintain.
The Kinedo team is available to train housebuilder teams on the installation process of Kinedo cubicles, which are known to be quick and easy to install. Delivered in a single package containing panels, tray, shower and shower valve and all fixtures and fittings, they save on specification time and eliminate the need for after trades.
A range of high quality cubicle styles are available to suit bathrooms large and small. For more information please visit www.kinedo.co.uk or call the technical helpline for support on 020 8842 0033.
