Product Spotlight – Marmox

Slicedstone

Marmox has been drawing a lot of positive attention to its Slicedstone sheets at design and trade events across the nation

Earning acclaim on stylish projects abroad and gaining attention at trade shows and other design exhibitions around the country this year, Marmox has added large format Slicedstone sheets to its already successful natural stone mosaic tiles.

The sumptuous products are increasingly being specified for projects that need dependable and durable performance, such as hotel bathrooms and wetrooms, sports and leisure complexes, spas & wellness centres.  The recently developed larger sheets have already been specified by renowned architectural practice, TDF, to great acclaim for cladding a luxury villa complex – known as Rio Gardens – in Egypt.

Marmox is delighted with the villa development at New Cairo and is seeing a growing interest in the large format sheets as a radically different version of the very versatile mosaic introduced a couple of years ago. At Rio Gardens, some 12,000m2 of Slicedstone was supplied for the three lavish duplexes which are carefully laid out in private gardens featuring plunge pools.  Spread over 35.5 acres, some three-quarters of the development is set aside as greenery, to provide a sense of calm and serenity, with the high-profile architectural practice selecting Slicedstone to complement the natural surroundings.

Both the mosaics and sheets are cut from the surface of Indian sedimentary rock and then re-engineered with a stabilised backing. The natural stone blend substrate is treated with a clear polycarbonate solution to offer a surface that is both stable and fully resistant to water as well as being stain resistant: which allows for the easy removal of grout and adhesive residue post installation. While being natural, they are UV resistant and will not fade over time.

Being in large format means, of course when compared to traditional tiling, savings were made at New Cairo’s Rio Gardens on fixings, grout and glues – as well as with the labour costs through quicker installation. The lightweight sheets are available in three sizes, these being 1220 x 610mm, 2100 x 105 mm and 2400 x 1050, weighing between 2.5 to 3.0 kg per square metre – they are just 4 ± 1.5mm thick and exhibit a moisture absorption rate of less than 2.5%.

While the mosaic tiles come in roll form, the new sheet material still retains a degree of flexibility, allowing it to be installed across gently curved surfaces.  However, both types can be applied to a variety of substrates – including plasterwork, concrete and steel as well as timber boarding and being backed with a 100% waterproof decoupling membrane allows the innovative products to be secured using tile adhesive.

The Marketing Manager for Marmox, Grant Terry, commented: “Our customers have shown great creativity in their use of the original Slicedstone offering and we are certain that the new large format sheets will prove equally popular, displaying the same beauty of natural Indian limestone, but in a way that makes them ideal for cladding/covering larger wall areas. Their manufacture means they are both flexible and fully waterproof, as well as lightweight, making them straightforward to install.”
