CALA Homes extends playtime for the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity has received a funding boost from CALA Homes (West).

The charity, which supports children and young people in hospital, has been awarded funding from the homebuilder’s annual community bursary scheme.

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity raises funds to ensure patients and their families in hospital across Glasgow and the West receive the best possible care and experience by funding enhanced medical equipment, family support services, play programmes and ground-breaking paediatric research.

The funding from CALA Homes (West) will go towards the upkeep of the hospital’s innovative play programme and its dedicated health play specialists.

The programme funded by the charity includes their Teddy Hospital as well as the Teddy Pop-up Hospital in the hospital’s Atrium – and has also introduced a Teddy Trolley to take round wards during the evenings and weekends.

Children can visit the Teddy Hospital to become more familiar with their conditions and any medical procedures they might experience during their time in hospital. It helps reduce feelings of worry through structured play with teddy bears and mini equipment including a mini CT/MRI scanner.

David Wilkes, Surveying Manager at CALA Homes (West), said: “It was fantastic to visit the Teddy Hospital and meet the incredible play specialists who transform children’s hospital visits.

“The facilities are outstanding and CALA is thrilled to be able to support the wonderful play programme funded by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.”

Kirsten Sinclair, Chief Operating Officer, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to CALA Homes (West) for their generous donation. This will help to support our Play Programme which aims to relax and distract young patients during their hospital stay.

“Being in hospital can be a very worrying time for children, but thanks to special projects like our Teddy Hospital and the fantastic Play Specialists, our young patients have the chance to learn about and prepare for upcoming treatments. This helps to ease worry and anxiety around procedures, helping them to have a more positive hospital experience.”

Liana Canavan, Sales and Marketing Director of CALA Homes (West), said: “We are really pleased to support Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. It is a brilliant organisation supporting children and young people undergoing hospital treatment across Glasgow and the West.”
