Manufacturer of concrete roofing products, Forticrete, has been called upon by NRA Roofing to supply its Gemini roofing tile for Richmond Care Village in Aston-On-Trent. The roofing specialist was appointed by leading construction company, Bouygues UK, as the sub-contractor for the £30 million development.

With the planning process in mind, Forticrete working alongside NRA Roofing to identify the Gemini tile as a solution that met the stringent requirements outlined by planning authorities, which requires new-builds to blend in with the aesthetic of the local area. The Gemini tile offers the appearance of a traditional plain tile, while offering a 30% reduction in weight along with savings in labour required when compared with plain tiles, due to its unique interlocking feature.

With its ‘double cambered’ design, the Gemini tile gives the appearance of two traditional plain tiles being laid side by side. This innovative design means that only 16.3 tiles are laid per m2, while traditional plain tiles require 60. This reduction of tiles laid per m2 reduces the number of hours contractors would spend on site, as well as reducing the amount spent on materials and labour.

Area Sales Manager for Forticrete, Michael Trott, commented: “The Richmond Care Village is a premium project in Aston-On-Trent, and as such, it has been exciting to work with NRA Roofing to supply them with a product that met with the requirements set out by planning authorities.

“The Gemini roof tile offers contractors flexibility in the look that they are able to offer customers. Not only does the Gemini speed up the building process, the intuitive design means that our customers are able to save up to 20% on labour costs since less tiles are required to cover the same area as a conventional tile would.

“The Gemini tile proves to be popular among developers, self-builders and planning authorities due to its ability to match closely to local surroundings. The tile is available in a variety of colours, so builders can rest assured that their build will achieve the look of traditional builds, while using modern materials that can save on material and labour costs.”

Forticrete’s Gemini tile holds the quality kite mark BS EN 490, which ensures the products permeability, mechanical testing, as well as material strength. With a 60-year product integrity guarantee, the Gemini tile offers customers peace of mind that not only are the tiles specified aesthetically pleasing, but durable too.
