GROHE UK team tackles Thames’ plastic litter

Employees from GROHE UK clear up plastic waste from the Thames for LIXIL Community Month

On Friday 30th October 2020, a 14-strong team of socially distanced employees from GROHE UK gathered in Runnymede, Surrey on a mission to remove plastic litter from the River Thames and the surrounding towpaths. The event was organised in honour of LIXIL Community Month, an occasion that takes place throughout the month of October each year, where more than 15,000 employees from its brands all over the world take part in activities that see them give back to their community.

“2020 has been a tough year for us all but LIXIL Community Month actively encourages us to continue to be accountable and volunteer our time within our local community to achieve something for the greater good and spread positivity”, says Ebru Bircan, Head of Activation at GROHE UK. “I am delighted with the efforts of our team who turned out in force to do their bit. The plastic crisis is an issue incredibly important to us as a company and one that we are constantly working to improve; through product innovation, our Less Plastic initiative which has already seen us save more than 23 million pieces of plastic packaging, and with additional activities such as this which not only improves the local surroundings but prevents potential damage to wildlife and unnecessary plastic entering our rivers and oceans.”

GROHE managed to collect a total of 28 bags of waste, comprising of plastic bottles, cans, cups, and food wrappers, which was then carefully disposed of in appropriate waste and recycling bins.
