Due to continuing growth, James Simpson has joined the technical and compliance department at SDL Bigwood.

Mr Simpson, who will be moving from the firm’s Colmore Row office to its Summer Row headquarters, is a highly experienced building surveyor.

In his new role he will be carrying out property surveys and reinstatement cost assessments for residential buildings managed by SDL Bigwood.

Reinstatement cost assessments are essential for ensuring the right level of insurance cover for buildings.

Stuart Burridge, PRS & Estate Management head of property compliance, said: “Valuations for insurance purposes should only be carried out by qualified valuers who have the appropriate knowledge and experience.

“Insurance companies require a declared value on which the premium is based and an additional figure, known as the sum insured, is then provided by the insurer. If you’re under-insured, there is the risk of large unexpected costs should a claim be made. If you’re over insured, your premiums could be unnecessarily high.

“With a total of nine years of completing reinstatement cost assessments, James is an experienced property surveyor and will bring a wealth of knowledge to the team.

Mr Simpson said: “This is a fresh challenge and I am very much looking forward to it.”
