Tile Depot has helped put an end to the two and a half year misery of a family who had become a victim of an unscrupulous builder, uncovered by Dominic Greenwood in the current series of Channel Five’s Cowboy Builders.

Tile Depot donated the tiles for a bathroom, part of an extension transformed by Sheree Murphy and her team in episode three of the popular series, from a depressing shell – half built then abandoned by the builder – to the gorgeous family space the family had dreamed of with room for their three growing children.

The family paid over £30,000 for the extension, which sat as an un-insulated, roofless carcass for over two years after the builder gained their trust, took their money and left the site never to return. He had also demolished their lovely conservatory and ripped a hole in their existing roof.

It was the biggest scale transformation so far for Sheree and her team but they met the challenge, finishing the building work, decorating and furnishing the sumptuous new living room and two bedrooms as well as the bright, modern bathroom in just three weeks.

Tile Depot was pleased to lend a hand, supplying enough tiles to tile the bathroom from top to bottom using Flat Gloss White Rectified 30x60cm tiles with red mosaics on the walls and 30x30cm white tiles on the floor. Rectified tiles provide a modern twist on traditional white, with a square edge and therefore tighter grout lines for a sleek, sophisticated finish and a bright, spacious feel. The retailer’s Galaxy Red mosaic tiles added a splash of vivid colour, creating striking focal points of the shower and the WC.

David Fitzgerald, operations director of Tile Depot, said: “When the builder left the house, the family had less space than before so it was really great to watch the programme and see their faces when they first saw their new extension. All the rooms are gorgeous and we are proud to have been involved in putting an end to the family’s anger and upset. The Flat Gloss White Rectified tiles are popular and the programme excellently demonstrated how a touch of colour or pattern can really personalise a room. Mosaic tiles work exceptionally well for this as the sheets can be cut to create any desired pattern.”
