East Kilbride could be in line to have 100 new affordable homes built, after a building firm applied for permission for the job to be done.

Following successful discussions with the South Lanarkshire Council, the project will see an expansion of an already planned development.

The council itself has plans to build 500 new affordable homes by 2020, as well as having 2300 housing association properties.

It’s believed that work will begin on the project in early 2018, with the hope of having it all finished in 2019.

Phil McGinlay – the managing director of Swan Group, who will deliver the plan alongside the Link Group, believes that this emphasises how much commitment goes into the council, while striving to deliver something of the highest quality.

“This development demonstrates our commitment to collaborating with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) and local authorities such as Link Group and South Lanarkshire Council,” McGinlay said.

“We all share an ambition to deliver high quality, affordable housing to meet the growing demand across Scotland.”

Adding further comment, Ross Martin – the chairman of Link Group – detailed just how they can help.

“Developments like Law Place in East Kilbride will help to address the real need for rental accommodation that is affordable, for people on relatively low or fixed incomes,” Martin said.

“Link can help to provide a secure future for them by working with developers like Swan Group, who also understand this market.”
