The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) celebrated the winners of the 2024 BIID Interior Design Awards at a ceremony held on Thursday, 17th October at Drapers’ Hall, London. The event, now in its third consecutive year at the iconic venue, was hosted by architectural and social historian Dr. Lucy Worsley, with over 200 design industry professionals in attendance.
The awards recognised excellence across seven regional categories, as well as special accolades for “Interior of the Year” and the “Anna Whitehead Prize” for achievements in sustainable design.
BIID President Angela Bardino expressed pride in the diversity and calibre of projects submitted, stating: “This year’s eclectic mix of superb quality work is a true celebration of the best of British interior design. Congratulations to all the winners for their remarkable projects that inspire and excite our community.”
Interior of the Year: James Brookman Design (JBD) – No. 5, Isle of Man James Brookman Design’s project for Plan.com’s workspace in the Isle of Man claimed the top honour. JBD created a sophisticated environment focused on connectivity and well-being, incorporating biophilic design elements like a living wall. Innovative features, such as multifunctional event spaces and structural floor plates enhancing daylight, contributed to the workspace’s dynamic and flexible feel. Judges praised the project for its “dramatic use of lighting” and its role in enhancing productivity and collaboration, making it a strategic asset for attracting younger talent.
Regional Winners Highlighted Across the UK The regional awards showcased a diverse array of projects, including Ampersand Interiors’ Woodhall House in Scotland, blending modern comfort with rural charm, and DaeWha Kang Design’s sensitive transformation of the historic St. Andrew’s Church in Central London, which married contemporary design with original features. Each project demonstrated how unique design solutions can breathe new life into spaces, whether residential, commercial, or hospitality settings.
Anna Whitehead Prize for Sustainability: Studio 9 Design – Cwm Tawel Estate Studio 9 Design’s Cwm Tawel Estate project in Pembrokeshire received the Anna Whitehead Prize, recognised for its dedication to sustainable design. The project focused on the restoration of properties with eco-friendly practices, using local materials to maintain authenticity. The judges commended it as an “exceptional example of how regional heritage can be elegantly woven into modern design,” setting a benchmark for future sustainable projects.
The BIID Interior Design Awards continue to spotlight the best in British design, providing a platform for both large-scale and smaller projects to gain recognition. The 2024 event was supported by Headline Sponsor Havwoods, Sustainability Sponsor Swatchbox, and other key partners including Decorex and Abels.
