The growing housebuilder has welcomed Peter Wilkinson to the new role of commercial manager. Peter has joined Castle Green Homes, based at its Preston Brook office.
He explained: “I was brought in to manage the commercial department in the North West. My role will include providing commercial input into land bids, Partnership agreements, procuring subcontractors and supplier agreements. We have quite a diverse team, including some people in the early stages of their careers who I’ll be supporting and sharing my experience with, along with providing leadership.”
Ranked in Building’s top 150 housebuilders, Castle Green was listed as one of just five companies to report increases in both revenue and operating profit in 2024.
The business has gone from strength to strength following a management buyout of the then Macbryde homes in 2020 with backing from long-term finance partner Bridgemere UK.
The number of homes completed a year has increased by 155% from 114 in the year ended March 2020 to 291 in the year to March 2024. In the same period turnover has increased by 333%.
Since the rebrand, the business has delivered a total of 1,000 homes. Castle Green is eyeing further growth with an ambitious target of delivering more than 600 homes across 15 sites in the current financial year.
“As Castle Green looks to increase the number of completions year on year, part of my role is to ensure procedures are in place to help achieve those numbers,” Peter added.
“The challenge with commercial is to control costs while adhering to building regulations and taking into account general inflation and making sure we have material arrangements in place along with robust tendering to ensure we are getting the best value out of our subcontractor.”
Peter, who’s lived in a new build home himself previously said the Castle Green product and specification were among the reasons he was keen to join the business.
“It’s a company I’m proud to work for,” Peter, 37, from Lowton added.
Prior to joining Castle Green, Peter worked for Redrow for more than 20 years, progressing from trainee quantity surveyor to commercial manager.
“The housebuilding industry is very rewarding. I didn’t go to university but went into a role with a mix of college and work-based training. There are lots of different routes to take including apprenticeships,” Peter, a father, beagle owner and Newcastle United fan, added.
“The economy and the country need new homes to be built and to do that we need young professionals coming through the ranks so we can fulfil those targets.”
Castle Green is headquartered in St Asaph, has an office at Preston Brook and live development sites across North Wales and the Northwest of England.
It’s currently operating across North Wales, Cheshire and the Liverpool City Region, but is looking to expand the geographic spread of the sites it develops to including Greater Manchester, North Staffordshire and North Shropshire.
