Former Forces family find forever home with Ashberry Homes

A former Army family have finally found their forever home in the Gloucestershire village of Churchdown, after living in 16 homes in 20 years.

Elaine and Nigel Hicks purchased a four-bedroom detached Rose house type at Ashberry Homes’ Pirton Fields development off Cheltenham Road East and moved in with their 16-year-old daughter Summer in June.

Because of Nigel’s former career as a Captain in the British Army, the family spent 20 years moving from home to home, but the couple now know that this is the property that they will call home for good.

Elaine, 64, who works as a personal assistant for a local charity, said: “After moving around a lot over the last few years as a result of Nigel’s career in the Army, we finally found ourselves in a position to settle down and find somewhere where we could stay for a long time.

“I am not ashamed to say that I started crying as soon as I opened the door for the first time. I was really overwhelmed but absolutely thrilled to have got the keys. I can be absolutely certain when I say that this is our forever home.”

Finding Pirton Fields was something of a happy accident, with the couple stumbling upon it by chance after visiting other properties in the area.

Elaine said: “We had set about looking at homes in the Gloucestershire area and were on our way back from visiting a development in Brockworth when we saw some signage for an Ashberry Homes development in Churchdown.

“We decided to visit the four-bedroom showhome on site and as soon as I walked in the door, I knew that it was the home that I wanted. We immediately looked to secure our own property on site and spoke to Jo in the sales office, who arranged everything incredibly quickly.

“The location of the development couldn’t be more ideal. It sits right on four bus routes and is situated between Gloucester and Cheltenham, both of which are less than a 20-minute drive away. This makes it incredibly easy to pop out and do some shopping, and to visit Gloucester Quays, where there are so many great shops and places to eat.

“Despite being so close to the M5 and other major roads, all I see when I look out of my bedroom window is the rolling Cotswold hills, which is just a fantastic thing to wake up to every day.”

The couple had previously been living in a four-bedroom terraced property in Winchester, but found there was more value to be had in Gloucestershire, and in particular at Ashberry’s Pirton Fields.

As well as the house itself, the community on site is also a perfect fit for the couple, and they are already feeling well at home at the development.

Elaine said: “Jo, the sales advisor on site, invited us to a ‘meet the neighbours’ event before we even moved in, which I thought was a fantastic idea. This allowed us to build relationships with our neighbours before we even got our keys, and we are still in contact with the very same people now we have moved in. Jo kept us up to date from the very start, and even sent us pictures of our home as it was being built while we were down in Winchester, which we thought was a nice touch.”

The couple were also impressed with the customer service on site, and this helped make their transition a smooth one.
