From Graduate Scheme to Sales Manager: Jessica Slater’s story

Barratt’s East London division has recently announced the promotion of graduate scheme alumni Jessica Slater to Field Sales Manager.
In her new role Jessica will oversee the sales at Wembley Park Gardens, a joint venture site with Places for London (TfL’s property arm), and Ridgeway Views, an exciting example of brownfield regeneration in Mill Hill.
Jessica first joined Barratt London in 2022 to participate in their ASPIRE programme. The programme includes the following rotations: Land and Planning, Technical, Commercial, Construction, Sales & Marketing and Finance.
Alongside her day job, Jessica is a member of the Junior Board where she has been heavily involved in charity work on behalf of Barratt London. This included: organising bake sales for the sales department to host in head office, working with Places for London and The Outward Bound Trust.
While working with Places for London (TfL’s property arm), Jessica presented to young people on the construction industry and the diverse range of careers available within the sector.Ba
During her time with The Outward Bound Trust, Jessica spent a week in Aberdovey, Wales educating young people on careers in construction whilst taking part in an array outdoor challenges such as building canoes to gorge walking.
Jessica Slater, Field Sales Manager at Barratt East London comments: “I knew I wanted to work for Barratt London as they are well known for having the best training programme in the industry, not just for graduate courses but for apprenticeships too. I found myself impressed by everyone I met during the interview process and really liked the sound of the business’ culture.”
Yolanda Jacob, Director of Sales and Marketing at Barratt East London says: “Congratulations to Jessica on her hard-earned promotion. She is a shining example of where the graduate programme can lead to. The scheme is a great way for university leavers to enter the working world, anyone interested in applying should keep an eye out for the next wave of openings.”
For anyone considering applying for the graduate scheme Jessica adds: “I cannot recommend the ASPIRE graduate scheme enough, it’s fast-paced but it provides a great diverse training ground for taking your first steps into the industry. There are so many roles within property beyond construction. If you’re creative there are sales/marketing roles, if you’re mathematically minded you may enjoy working in the technical department or with the land team. It’s truly not one size fits all.
