Planning permission granted for Frognal Place

Chartway Partnerships Group and Moat Homes are delighted to announce today that they have successfully received planning permission from Swale Borough Council for the development of 298 new mixed-tenure homes, community facilities, and public open space at Frognal Place in Teynham.

The approval, granted 18 July 2024, follows the outline planning permission granted by Swale Borough Council in 2021 for up to 300 dwellings, sports grounds, open spaces, and new infrastructure. The latest application was prepared in close collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Borough Council, Parish Council, and the local community.

The Frognal Place development embodies Chartway and Moat’s vision to create high-quality, energy-efficient, and sustainable homes for everyone. The project will offer a variety of housing options, from 1 and 2 bedroom apartments to 2, 3, and 4 bedroom houses, including affordable housing for rent and shared ownership.

The development will feature extensive landscape-led public open spaces, including new community orchards that celebrate Swale’s rich history of fruit production. Additionally, the plan includes community facilities such as new allotments, sports pitches, and a sports pavilion. The project is committed to exceeding the national +10% biodiversity net gain target by preserving existing landscaping and introducing extensive native planting and ecological enhancements.

In line with the initial planning approval, the development will contribute over £4.2 million to local community infrastructure. This funding will support the expansion of local primary and secondary schools, improvements to library, health, and social care facilities, and enhancements to local transport infrastructure.

Julian Moat, Planning Director, Chartway Partnerships Group:

“Receiving planning permission is a significant milestone in our vision to create a thriving, sustainable neighbourhood at Frognal Place that supports and enhances the existing Teynham community. This development promises to deliver broad socio-economic benefits to the Borough, with contributions exceeding £4.2 million to bolster local education, healthcare, youth services, and transport infrastructure.”

Steve Nunn, Acting Chief Executive, Moat:

“The Frognal Place development is our biggest to date and we look forward to working with Chartway to build attractive, safe and sustainable homes in this area of Kent. Alongside the provision of affordable housing where it’s needed, our customers and communities will benefit from community facilities that truly respect and enhance the heritage and character of the area and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
