St Arthur Homes on newbuild home energy benefits

Buying a newbuild home is one way that people can save energy – and money – according to St Arthur Homes, speaking during Energy Saving Week.

The event, which runs from 17-23 January, is a national campaign with the aim to help and encourage people to save energy while cutting down on fuel costs.

Figures released late last year by the HBF (Home Builders Federation) show that buyers who choose a new build house could save up to £2600 a year on average energy costs.

Richard Cohen, CEO of Shared Ownership provider St Arthur Homes, said: “Energy Saving Week gives us the perfect opportunity to highlight the cost and energy saving implications of buying a newbuild home.

“For many of us, saving energy and being aware of our carbon footprints is high on the priority list for 2023. Living in a more sustainable way has become important to many of us, and one of the best ways to do that is to go for a new build house, rather than an older property.

“New build homes emit a third of the carbon of an older property, reducing carbon emissions by over 500,000 tonnes. That’s a vast amount, and a way we can all play our part in contributing to the country’s progression towards net zero.

“Of course, on a personal level that also means cheaper household bills too. The HBF figures say that people can save up to £2600 a year on energy costs if they choose a new build property. Those are really substantial savings and could make all the difference in these times of rising costs.”

Energy Saving Week was created in partnership with Citizens Advice, the Energy Saving Trust and the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

St Arthur Homes currently has properties available to buy using a shared ownership scheme in Lancaster Park in West Malling, Kitchener Barracks in Chatham and Whiteley Meadows in Whiteley.
