UK cast stone specialist, Haddonstone has completed a prestigious project which comprised replacement work on an ornate carved sandstone parapet at Waddesdon Manor, a beautiful Grade I listed National Trust property. It was built in the Neo-Renaissance style of a French château between 1874 and 1889 for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild (1839–1898) and is now one of the National Trust’s most visited properties; the property is still owned by the Rothschild family.
To restore the eroded parapet, The Haddonstone team visited the site and applied a silicone rubber to take impressions of the damaged parapet in situ. This enabled a highly detailed imprint of its intricate detailing to be produced. Using the impressions taken onsite, the studio and pattern-making team was able to produce plaster models of the parapet which were then built up and re-carved to recreate the intricacy of the original designs before the production moulds were created. Finally, the new Haddonstone pieces were cast from these moulds using Haddonstone’s very own semi-dry cast limestone material, in a bespoke colour to ensure an exact match.
