BIID presents opening talk at Decorex 2012

The luxury interior design show…

The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) will be playing a major role at Decorex International 2012, the luxury interior design show (23rd-26th September, Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London). The headline speaker who will open the show’s prestigious seminar programme this year will be Sue Timney, President of the BIID.

Decorex celebrates 35 years this year with a huge collection of suppliers and designs, as well as an inspirational array of speakers and features. In her talk entitled, ‘Outside the Box’ Sue Timney will share the secrets of her approach to creativity and interior design, and trace the unique blend of influences that have shaped her career.

For over 25 years Sue Timney has been creating her particular brand of interiors. Born in Libya, with parents from India and Scotland, Sue began her design career with a Fine Art degree which took her to the Royal College of Art and then onto Japan where she developed a global design business. Sue is a Visiting Professor of the RCA and also President of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID).

“Decorex is an important date for any discerning designer,” explains Sue Timney, BIID President. “The exhibition offers a great opportunity for interior designers to see the latest design trends, innovation and thinking in the industry. It also provides a setting to network with decision makers to generate business. It is imperative for the Institute to support events such as Decorex, and in turn support the industry and its development.”

Prior to Sue’s seminar, the Royal Warrant Holders Association will hold an exclusive networking breakfast on the 23rdSeptember for BIID members, easing them in to what will be a hectic four days of exciting design. The Association’s stand is a collaborative venture by seven Royal Warrant Holding firms and is being designed by Mikhail Pietranek, presenting a range of different styles.

Launched in 1978 as a small, exclusive and targeted exhibition of high end design merchandise, Decorex was an instant success and has grown to its current size of almost 300 exhibitors. All exhibitors are hand-picked to ensure visitors an exclusive look into the most innovative, inspirational and highest quality products. Interior designers, retail buyers and hotel and contract specifiers will be flocking to the exhibition to see the best of interior design all under one roof.
