Raise over £1.5k for charity…

Rising to the challenge, longstanding member of staff, Christian Routley from Coram Showers, has now completed his mile challenge, raising an admirable £1.5k for The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust; Neurological Rehabilitation Ward at West Park Hospital.

Following a health scare back in 2007 where Chris spent just over 4 months in this hospital prompted this valiant attempt. Completing the British Gas Great Manchester Swim in just over 28 minutes, Chris came 449th out of 2518 competitors, just proving that the rehabilitation and expertise they offer, works!

The British Gas Great ‘Manchester’ Swim is a one-mile outdoor swim that was staged in Salford Quays on 1st July 2012. The course took Chris through a unique ‘Dock to Dock’ lay-out with spectators able to walk along the dockside supporting the swimmers.

Peter Dimeloe, Managing Director of Coram Showers says: “I am really proud to see Chris be so courageous taking on such a challenge – especially when ‘charity starts at home’ for most! Even with his commitment to Coram, he still managed to find the time to support a cause that is close to his heart and in my book that is to be applauded.”

Chris Routley says: “Well, I managed to complete the swimming challenge but will admit this had to be the toughest thing I have ever put my mind to! However painful, being able to show my appreciation to all the doctors and therapists who nursed me back to a ‘normal’ life was all the reward I needed. To continue my appreciation I have already started preparations for next year’s swim, and the training starts tonight!”
