At the recent General Assembly of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) in Kuala Lumpur, Iris Dunbar was inaugurated as President and takes over from Shashi Caan (2009-2014). Established in Europe in 1963 IFI celebrates 50 years as the global forum for Interiors and the announcement is made in advance of World Interiors Day on 31 May 2014.
IFI is the global voice and authority for professional Interior Architects/Designers. IFI is the sole international federating body for Interior Architecture/Design organisations, and acts as a global forum for the exchange and development of knowledge and experience, in worldwide education, research and practice. Often considered as the “United Nations” of the Interior Architecture/Design field, IFI connects the international community in order to further the impact, influence and application of the design of interiors, promote global social responsibility, and raise the status of the profession worldwide.
In her address on the final day of the General Assembly, IFI President Iris Dunbar announced that the new board are charged with creating a new regional model to help to increase participation and dialogue within the world interiors community. The mandate for the board term is to “ Respect The Past, Change the Present and Inspire the Future”. The incoming board will continue to build on the strong foundations already put in place by the hard work of the past board group and the many passionate and dedicated professionals, whose love, belief and perseverance, has helped to establish IFI as an important and well-respected international not-for-profit organisation.
Iris Dunbar has an illustrious career in both interior design and education. Most recently as Past President, British Institute of Interior Design (www.BIID.org.uk) and currently as President and Board Member, International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (www.ifiworld.org). Iris Dunbar was a recent recipient of the BIID Merit Award in recognition to her dedication to Interiors throughout her career. A well known British-based educator, Iris is passionate about professionalism in the industry and has been a pivotal force for change within the Interior Design community over the past 40 years.
