Who’s Who – Geberit

Celebrating 150 years of excellence, Geberit continues to be a European leader of sanitary products, setting the standard for innovation and quality across the industry

This year saw the 150th anniversary of Geberit, marking a remarkable journey from a one-man business to a renowned international group. Established in 1874 in the historic town, Rapperswill, Switzerland, Geberit has continuously evolved, setting industry standards and achieving milestones in innovation.

Founder Albert Gebert paved the way for sanitary innovation in 1904 when he designed a lead-lined wooden cistern, followed by the first plastic cistern in 1952 and the world’s first concealed cistern in 1964 which changed the look of bathrooms across the globe. Today, Geberit employs more than 10,000 people globally, across 26 sites including its UK HQ in Warwick.

Even at the ripe old age of 150, Geberit continues to innovate. The company recently unveiled the AquaClean Alba, an elegant yet affordable shower toilet designed to bring the company’s renowned hygiene and comfort features to a broader range of customers so they too can experience washing with water.

The AquaClean Alba combines Geberit’s sophisticated product design with a streamlined feature set focused on essential functionalities for the ultimate hygiene experience. At its core is patented WhirlSpray technology, which delivers a gentle yet effective cleansing experience. Complementing this is the quiet TurboFlush 2.0 system alongside an ergonomic, rimless ceramic design that ensures optimum cleaning of the pan, easy cleaning and uncompromising hygiene for the user.

Designed with user convenience in mind, the AquaClean Alba offers heated water for a comfortable cleansing experience and an automatic descaling program for hassle-free maintenance. It also includes a remote control with wall bracket and integration with the Geberit Home app, allowing users to adjust the shower water temperature and spray arm position from their smartphone.

Installation and maintenance are equally straightforward. The AquaClean Alba is compatible with all Geberit installation systems, Monolith modules, and AquaClean design panels, enabling seamless integration into any bathroom setup. Its removable design cover provides easy access to the descaling agent fill and spray nozzle, while the LED indicator on the remote control and app alerts users when descaling is needed.

As Sophie Weston, Head of Marketing at Geberit, commented: “Shower toilets are becoming increasingly popular in modern bathroom designs. With the addition of the Geberit AquaClean Alba to our portfolio, we’re making premium Geberit design and market-leading functionality accessible to every project, regardless of budget.”

The Geberit AquaClean Alba is just the latest of a series of innovations Geberit has brought to the housebuilding industry over the past 150 years. From simple wooden cisterns through to the first plastic cisterns and sophisticated ceramics, the name Geberit has become a byword for high-quality sanitary products and functional design.

“At Geberit, we pride ourselves on taking a good thing and making it great!” Mark Larden, Managing Director at Geberit UK, commented.

“This has been our credo since day one and in doing so, we always put our customers at the centre of everything we do. Over the past 150 years, Geberit’s values and objectives haven’t changed, despite growing from a small family business to the European market leader for sanitary products.”
