Target Timber is at the forefront of eco-friendly housebuilding as the industry shifts towards timber frame construction.
It has taken almost two decades, but Target Timber Systems Ltd is now experiencing what it has been advocating for since it first started – a major shift toward building new homes with eco-friendly timber frames.
Target Timber is one of the most successful and respected timber frame manufacturers in the UK. They design, manufacture, and construct premium quality timber frame systems for self-builders, property developers and architects across the UK, taking on projects from £20k to £2m.
The company manufactures all of its timber frame systems in its South Wales factory. A team of highly professional and loyal craftsmen produces timber frames for all types of homes; luxury homes, detached, semi-detached, bungalows and apartment buildings.
The benefits of timber frame
The list of benefits to constructing with timber frame systems is very long, bringing rewards to both housebuilders and homeowners.
Building with timber frames is far quicker than traditional methods. The timber frame for an entire house, including its thermally-insulated closed panels and roof trusses, can be manufactured in less than 12 weeks, and fully constructed and weathertight in under a week.
Offsite manufacturing also means there are fewer delays, less waste, greater efficiency, higher quality and less labour, all of which lead to significant cost savings.
Lowering energy bills
Energy efficiency is high on the list of priorities when it comes to people buying new homes, and timber frame comes out on top.
Target Timber has invested heavily in technology that allows them to produce their own fully assembled closed panel systems. Closed panels are ready-made walls with high-performance insulation, foil vapour control layer (VCL), and a service void, all of which are fitted in the factory.
They offer the highest levels of home insulation and energy efficiency with standard u-values as low as 0.17 W/M²/K, among the lowest in the industry. This means that the completed house is highly thermally insulated which results in low energy bills – a huge benefit for house buyers.
Sustainability
Timber has the lowest CO2 of any building material. Trees absorb high levels of carbon which will stay locked inside the timber for life. It is warm, sustainable and durable.
Target Timber Systems only source timber from sustainably managed European forests and every year the forests grow by over 3,500 square miles.
The future of housebuilding
Target Timber’s success is undoubtedly down to the quality of their craftsmanship, and unfailing service levels. But they have also spent nearly 20 years promoting the benefits of timber frames to the construction industry and they can now see the changes happening.
In 2022 timber frame housebuilding had increased by around £70m and this is expected to increase by over £150m by 2026.
Target Timber is a name that is synonymous with quality timber frame manufacturing and the company will definitely stay in the frame as a major supplier for this growing industry.
