Haddonstone

Get to know Haddonstone’s Export and Business Development Manager, Callum Jensen

What first attracted you to this industry?

When deciding on a career, I believe that it is important to enter an industry which motivates you.  As I first started my career, I was drawn to the many incentives and training opportunities, as well as to the huge variety of roles available within the construction industry.

I have always been passionate about both architecture and engineering, so finding this role at Haddonstone, which allows me to be creative in both of those fields, was a real win.  I’m also a people-person, so working directly with our end clients, to create their vision, is a bonus.

What do you like least and most about your profession?

The wide variety of projects that I am involved in with our team always makes the role exciting and keeps everybody engaged. Construction is by no means a niche industry and I have found it to be full of opportunity.  Like any industry, there are challenges, but generally speaking, everybody involved in a project pulls together and works as a team to achieve the best end result possible, which is a fantastic thing to be part of.

I do think it is fair to say that, although it is improving, the construction industry could benefit from greater diversity within leadership roles.

Working across the world has allowed me the chance to experience different approaches to projects. It has proven to me that there is a great opportunity to benefit from new ways of thinking, advancements in technology and learning from the experiences of others.

What is your favourite way to spend a weekend day?

My wife and I are ‘outdoors’ people, so we naturally spend a lot of time on long walks with our two dogs, perhaps finding a pub or two along the way.

Out of the office, I am very hands-on. I have a small workshop, where I enjoy woodworking and creating furniture for our cottage, which we have been updating over the past few years. I also keep classic cars, so there is always something to keep me busy!

How would one of your friends describe you?

Now, I had to check this one!  The answer was trustworthy, dependable and level-headed.

If you were to change careers, what job would you like?

If I were to change careers now, I would follow another passion of mine and I would love to hand-craft kitchens and bespoke furniture.  I have always had a passion for cooking, ever since I can remember, and of course, the kitchen is the heart of any home, so paired with my enjoyment of carpentry, it seems the perfect fit! For now, I am very happy working in a varied role within the construction industry.
