Electric vehicle charging operator Allego has announced a €100 million investment into the UK EV market. The company is seeking partnerships with landowners, landlords, shopping centre owners and developers to support its rollout.
They plan to install up to 1,400 new ultra-fast charging points by 2030. Allego has a particular focus on strategically located sites along motorways, as well as high-density urban areas including London.
Partnership opportunities for property owners
Allego is targeting locations across the retail, hospitality, roadside and commercial property sectors that can accommodate ultra-fast charging hubs and benefit from increased customer visits and longer dwell times.
Under its business model, Allego finances, builds, owns and operates the charging infrastructure, covering both the capital and operating costs. In return, landowners or landlords receive a long-term lease income without having to fund, manage or maintain the charging equipment. Allego also works with partners on joint marketing initiatives and customer offers designed to generate additional visits and commercial value.
This investment, backed by long-term infrastructure investor Meridiam, will establish Allego as one of the UK’s largest ultra-fast charging operators. It will also create jobs across Allego’s UK business and supply chain, including in site acquisition, development, planning, construction, engineering and network operations.

“We are looking for well-located sites where charging can complement an existing retail, hospitality or roadside offer, or form part of a wider development strategy.
“Our model provides property owners with a stable long-term income. We remove the upfront cost and operational responsibility associated with installing and running EV charging infrastructure.”
Allego has established similar partnerships across Europe, including with IKEA in Belgium, REWE in Germany and Burger King in France. The company has operated in the UK since 2017 and believes the country represents one of Europe’s strongest growth opportunities for EV charging infrastructure.

Salo added, “The UK charging network remains undersized compared with growing demand and more developed European markets. This €100 million commitment reflects our confidence in both the UK EV market and the partners supporting its growth.
“The UK is electrifying quickly, but the charging network must expand at the same pace. That creates a significant opportunity for landowners, landlords and operators with strategically located sites.
“We want to work with ambitious property partners to create a nationwide network of high-quality charging destinations that serve drivers while delivering lasting value for site owners.”
Allego currently operates across 15 European countries and has more than 35,000 charging points across its wider network.
