The vintage look gets a modern makeover

If you’re thinking of giving your bathroom a simple refresh, why not go for a vintage feel but mix it with contemporary colour influences, as seen with these William de Morgan inspired ceramic tiles from British Ceramic Tile’s V&A Collection.

Influenced by the designs of William de Morgan (1845-1910) in the Victoria and Albert Museum, beautiful fresh shades of Aegean and cobalt blues are offset by moody green tones, while the Victorian style flower motif makes for a truly stunning tile.

This elegant design typifies William de Morgan’s creative style, transforming nature-inspired images into highly decorative mofits. Use the décors to add a dash of colour to a simple white colour scheme with a splashback behind the sink or bath, or as a flowing border around the whole bathroom.

To deepen the colour impact and make a real style statement why not create a full feature wall or alternatively pick out the striking turquoise or cobalt blue to decorate the rest of your wall space.

As one of the most original craftsmen of the Arts and Crafts movement, William de Morgan’s work became a typical feature in interior design during this period, and was also used in the schemes of grand houses such as the Arab Hall in Lord Leighton’s London home and in the smoking rooms of P&O liners.
