Award winning Midlands homebuilder Lioncourt Homes ranks among the UK’s top 20 workplaces for women. It also leads the construction sector as the best workplace for women in its size category.
This recognition, which places Lioncourt alongside major organisations including Hilton, Aviva, and Admiral, is the latest in a run of accolades for the homebuilder. The achievement emphasises the culture opportunities and support it has delivered to empower people to thrive in their careers.
For Lioncourt Homes, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, this ranking follows its wider Great Place to Work accreditation. Its industry-specific certification recognises it as one of the best employers in construction.
Addressing the gender gap in construction
This recognition comes at a time when women make up around 14% of the UK’s construction workforce. That figure falls to just 7% in senior management and board-level roles.
With ambitious housing increasing demand for skills across the sector, attracting, supporting and retaining more women in construction will be an important part of building the workforce needed to deliver the homes of the future.
Lioncourt’s own figures tell a very different story from the industry’s averages. 40% of its workforce is female, rising to 50% across its senior leadership, management, and director roles
Employee feedback highlights positive workplace culture
Great Place to Work compiles its Best Workplaces for Women list using results from its Trust Index survey. Employees complete a comprehensive questionnaire, while independent assessors evaluate company culture and workplace practices.
95% of Lioncourt Homes employees said the company is a great place to work. This is well above the typical rate of 54% for a UK-based business.
Colin Cole, CEO at Lioncourt Homes, said, “To be recognised as one of the UK’s best workplaces for Women is something we’re incredibly proud of. It reflects the culture we’ve worked so hard to build over the last 20 years. As a business where a huge part of our operation is construction, we’re acutely aware of the issues the sector has faced when it comes to representation, and the stereotype of what a traditional building site looks like.
“We are proud to be leading the charge for women in construction and proving that a successful business can be built on treating everybody, regardless of who they are, fairly and properly, so each and every person feels empowered to make decisions.”
Liz Macklin, HR Manager at Lioncourt Homes, added, “A big reason we attract and retain top female talent within the sector is our inclusive culture. We have a genuine readiness to embrace family-friendly practices and accept flexible working patterns. This allows all employees to flourish and develop their careers while maintaining a healthy work life balance.”
Lioncourt Homes has enjoyed several months of success. The company also achieved five star status in the Home Builders Federation (HBF) annual Customer Satisfaction Survey for the 12th consecutive year.
