Moores have long been leading way with sustainable manufacturing, seeking to push the agenda and encourage responsible production across the KBB sector. Identifying opportunities to reduce their impact on both the local and wider environment, the company is proud to champion ethical practice as one of its key pillars of commitment. Through its 5 ‘R’ principles – Remove, Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle and Recovery – Moores consistently strives to minimise its carbon footprint throughout all areas of the business.

Moores have made significant upgrades to the factory and office spaces, including changing more than 2000 standard light bulbs to smart LED’s and updating the old boiler to a brand new one that runs on biomass fuel.

The £2,000,000 biomass boiler is central to the company’s sustainability roadmap, reinforcing its zero waste to landfill status which has been maintained since 2011. By doing this, Moores utilise the wood waste from kitchen production lines and recycling into biomass fuel to provide heat for the 600,000sq/ft site in Wetherby, North Yorkshire.

Most recently, the manufacturer added six Mercedes Actros fuel-saving vehicles to its fleet, making their transport 100% compliant to Euro 6 standards for fuel emissions. With consumption reduced by 20% versus older models, this change has helped to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 195 tonnes across the entire fleet, which further supplements the 200-tonne saving Moores has already made.

Overall, Moores have reduced their carbon footprint by 395 tonnes of Co2 per year, equivalent to the amount of Co2 that 15,200 trees would remove from the atmosphere, and this is only the start. They continue to position sustainability as a core fundamental part of their long-term business strategy.

To help the company reach its targets, Moores have created a strategic roadmap to help propel the company along its path over the next 12 months. This includes changing suppliers to work with as many FSC-approved, UK-based companies as possible, upgrading the company car and forklift truck fleet to vehicles that are powered by renewable energy, restricting fossil fuel usage throughout the business and reducing waste packaging.
