The Chestnut Tree in Bracknell

Pub managers Mark and Jodie Hickman have raised a glass to Bracknell Roofing for completing the roof of their new pub restaurant on a four week schedule.

Adding to the challenges of this very tight schedule was a requirement for Bracknell Roofing to work around other trades, which often involved giving several days’ precedence to other teams on site to ensure the overall project remained on schedule. In reality, that meant the company completed the roof in considerably less time than the allocated four weeks.

Bracknell Roofing, which offers a nationwide roofing and cladding service from 10 regional branches, was chosen by main contractor Carter Lauren because it had the resources and expertise to ensure that the roof was completed in time for the official opening on 9th June.

Working within a tight timeframe is a characteristic common with most retail projects as clients look to begin trading at the earliest opportunity. With severe penalties for handing over a project late, an increasing number of main contractors are turning to Bracknell Roofing because they know they are placing the roof in the hands of professionals that they can rely upon.

Bracknell Roofing proved to be the perfect choice for The Chestnut Tree because as well as completing the project on time, it had the skills to cope with what was a complex roof, including a series of gables, valleys, abutments and flat elements.

A combination of Marley Eternit concrete tiles and Sandtoft Britlock slates were used for the pitched roof elements. A single ply membrane was used on a flat roof towards the rear of the building that is used to house M&E plant for the pub’s kitchen. Additional work on the flat roof required the laying of mats for housing the M&E plant.

“The Chestnut Tree presented a challenge because it had to be completed on a four week schedule, whilst working around other trades on site,” said Tony Rawlinson, Bracknell Roofing Branch Director – Brownhills. “However, our team of experienced roofers are used to working on these types of projects and were able to successfully complete the job on time and within budget.”

A spokesperson from Carter Lauren, one of the largest privately owned South Wales based construction companies, said: “Bracknell Roofing demonstrated an ability to work around other trades to complete the roof on a very demanding schedule. The quality of work is excellent and we valued their input and experience on this high profile project.”

The Chestnut Tree in Wednesbury is the latest new outlet to be commissioned by leading pub-chain company Marstons, owns and operates over 2000 pubs around the UK. It is the UK’s largest builder of new pubs and has a three-year plan to build 60 new outlets.

Bracknell Roofing has a specialist flat roofing division as well as offering sustainable solutions ranging from green roofs, brown roofs, through to photovoltaic and solar powered systems.

The company has ISO 9001:2008 certification, the internationally recognised Quality Management System, as well as the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) prestigious Gold Award for safety in roofing.
