Urban Rhythm has transformed one of the site’s Grade II listed buildings

Leicester’s home buyers now have an opportunity to own a piece of history as the second phase of homes at the iconic Wheatsheaf Works Boot and Shoe Factory are now open.

Urban Rhythm, owned by the Hazelton Group, has transformed one of the site’s Grade II listed former factory buildings into a collection of 27 new homes, including 10 townhouses and 17 apartments.

Built in 1891, Wheatsheaf Works was once the largest shoe factory in the world, but had sat derelict for at least a decade before Urban Rhythm began its £13 million redevelopment of the Knighton Fields site.

Richard Hazelton, Commercial Director at The Hazelton Group, comments: “We are delighted that the second part of this exciting project has been completed and know the city’s home buyers will be impressed with the unique homes available at Quarter Two.

“We have redeveloped the smaller of the Wheatsheaf Works’ two factory buildings into a number of high quality modern homes, which offer a spectacular blend of old and new. The mix of two and three-bedroom townhouses and studio, one and two-bedroom apartments are completely different for Leicester, as these homes have been built within the old factory building.

“As a result they benefit from a number of original features, such as cast iron columns, exposed beams and brick work, and very large windows, which add a real sense of character, while the open-plan living area, high quality kitchen, stylish bathroom and underfloor heating give a very contemporary feel to the homes. We have also utilised the building’s high ceilings by creating attractive mezzanines within many of the apartments and townhouses, which will really appeal to modern home buyers.

“Eager home buyers were queuing at the door on launch day and we have already had four reservations, so we are extremely pleased with how well Quarter Two has been received.”

The new show homes include a one-bedroom ground floor apartment, which features modern grey, burnt orange and white interior design, and a two-bedroom townhouse, which has been given the glamorous touch with a sumptuous black, caramel and gold colour scheme.

The new townhouses feature an upside down floor plan, with bedrooms and bathrooms located on the ground floor and living and kitchen areas located upstairs, in order to maximise the impact of the large windows on the first floor.

All homes have been designed with energy efficiency in mind and benefit from air source heat pumps with underfloor heating. These extract heat from the outside air in order to heat the home, helping to reduce energy bills.

Richard adds: “Wheatsheaf Works has been a major draw for home buyers, with our newly built homes at Quarter One selling out in a matter of months and interest in this new collection of homes already high. Our advice to those who may be interested in making the move here is to come along to our show home and to find out more.”

One, two and three-bedroom homes are priced from £109,950. The new show homes, on Wordsworth Road, are open from Thursday to Monday, 10.30am to 5.30pm.
