Bellway Wales raises record sum for Cancer Research UK

Bellway Wales has enjoyed a record-breaking year of fundraising for the company’s chosen charity Cancer Research UK.

The housebuilder’s Wales division raised more than £77,000 for CRUK during its last financial year to the end of July. This is the highest annual figure the division has achieved since the partnership in 2016.

Colleagues from across the division organised and took part in a variety of fundraising activities over the 12 months. Funds were raised in a variety of different ways from a charity ball attended by hundreds of people to personal fitness challenges and dress down days.

Busson Ball raises more than £50,000

A total of £50,312 was raised at the Busson Ball. The black-tie event was held in memory of former CRUK Wales Relationship Manager Sophie Busson. She worked closely with the division on its fundraising activities, and sadly died of cancer in July 2025 at 39. Organised by Bellway colleagues Rachel Singers, Nicky Parker and Daniel Shone, the event took place at Cardiff’s Park Plaza Hotel in January. It was attended by more than 200 people.

Memorial golf day adds to total

A further £11,061 was raised at the Hugh Thomas Memorial Golf Day. The annual event held in memory of a missed Bellway colleague who died from cancer in 2022. Hosted by Rachel Singers and Daniel Shone, the fundraiser took place at Radyr Golf Club in July and saw 23 teams compete for the top prize.

Bellway Wales Development Manager Simon Hughes organised a series of fundraising events across the year. They included two Cars & Coffee events, in February and May. Each saw motoring enthusiasts showcase their classic, retro and modern vehicles at Bellway Wales’ divisional head office in St Mellons, raising a combined £4,950. A quiz at the Black Lion Hotel in Llandaff in April raised £3,080.

Trainee Assistant Site Manager Evie Denbury raised £1,800 after tackling CRUK’s 5k Pretty Mudder event in Bute Park in May. Meanwhile, Bellway Wales colleagues collectively raised £2,328 by taking part in the weekly Dress Down Friday.

A record breaking collective effort

Daniel Shone, Head of Sales at Bellway Wales, said, “This record-breaking fundraising tally is the result of a fantastic collective effort by colleagues from across the Wales division. I’m proud of everyone for doing their bit for such a deserving cause.

“Cancer Research UK is a charity which means an awful lot to us at Bellway Wales. The loss of much-loved colleague in Hugh and inspiring charity partner in Sophie, both to cancer, has only strengthened our determination to raise as much money as we can to help beat this dreadful disease, as shown by the two wonderful events held in their memory.

“I’d like to thank all Bellway Wales colleagues for organising, supporting or taking part in the various fundraising events which contributed to the overall total. I look forward to another successful year of fundraising over the next 12 months.”
