DHF launches new smart-scannable CSCS cards

Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has launched a new generation of smart-scannable CSCS cards for professionals working across the door, gate and loading-bay industries. The cards will help construction sites quickly and easily verify the competence, qualifications and training of operatives. The new cards feature a smart scannable chip which authorised site personnel can scan using the CSCS Smart Check app. This provides access to verified, up-to-date information held securely on the cardholder’s record. It includes qualifications, completed DHF training, occupational endorsements and expiry information.

Rather than storing information directly on the card itself, the smart scannable card links to a secure database. As operatives complete further training, achieve qualifications or gain additional endorsements, the system updates their records, providing a more accurate and current picture of their competence. DHF will manage the processing and administration of card applications.

Supporting competence across construction

“Competence is at the heart of everything we do. These new smart-scannable CSCS cards provide a simple and reliable way for sites to confirm that operatives have the right training and qualifications for the work they are carrying out”, explains DHF’s CEO, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens. “The construction industry is continually evolving, and people’s skills and knowledge develop throughout their careers. Having access to an up-to-date digital record means employers and site teams can see a more complete picture of an individual’s competence, rather than solely relying only on information printed on a card. This is another important step in helping to improve safety, traceability and professional standards across the door, gate and loading-bay sectors.”

The new cards build on DHF’s existing CSCS Partner Card Scheme. It was established in collaboration with the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) in 2019. The scheme supports professionals working across a wide range of occupations. This includes industrial doors and shutters, domestic garage doors, automated gates and traffic barriers and metal and timber doors. Existing cardholders will receive the new smart-scannable card when they renew their current card.

“The introduction of smart-scannable cards provides site teams with a faster and more reliable way to confirm that operatives have the appropriate skills, qualifications and training for their role,” concludes Patricia. “The new system recognises that competence is built over time and supports continuous improvement across the sector. Through this latest development, DHF continues to raise standards across the industries it represents. We want to help employers, contractors and site teams improve safety, confidence and accountability on construction sites.”
