The Joint Development Control Committee, comprising members from Cambridge City Council and South Cambridge District Council, on Wednesday 5 April granted planning permission for 160 new high-quality homes at Eddington, the University of Cambridge’s North West Cambridge Development.
Independent south east and London housebuilder Durkan Homes has joined forces with Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, to deliver the new homes.
The joint venture between Durkan Homes and Latimer will develop part of the University’s North West Cambridge site and deliver studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments, and three and four-bedroom homes. The development will also incorporate communal landscaped courtyards and private gardens.
The combined strength and expertise of Durkan Homes and Latimer will ensure that it is brought forward with the highest possible quality. Work is expected to start on site in early Summer 2024.

The wider North West Cambridge Development will include around 3,000 new homes, academic spaces and community facilities – in addition to new parklands and green space as an open neighbourhood in the city.
Sustainable building will form a crucial part of the design principles developed by Durkan Homes and Latimer, with the inclusion of a connection to the existing heat and hot water system through the provision of a district heating network. All the homes will be designed to adhere to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5 or comparable national measure of sustainability for building design.
The development has also been planned to enhance the existing landscape on the site, with the aim of carefully integrating it into the wider North West Cambridge Development and the existing community.
