Marmox marks 25 years of Multiboard as rising demands for energy efficiency and moisture resistance drive renewed uptake across UK construction
After a landmark year in 2025, insulation and wetroom specialist Marmox is looking forward to more success over the coming 12 months, particularly in respect to the uptake of its earliest offering to the UK construction market as issues such as energy conservation and moisture resistance grow in importance to specifiers.
In fact, company founder Harry Parsons, who launched Marmox Multiboard to the UK market back in the Millenium, joined staff from the company’s Chatham premises to celebrate the 25th anniversary at Kent’s Big Cat centre: able to reflect on how the product portfolio has grown and prospered.
While the expansive range now extends to a A1 rated rock mineral wool board and Thermoblock, a unique solution to cold-bridging at the floor/wall joint, Multiboard’s multifunctional performance continues to prove equal to new technical challenges: thanks to its fully waterproof extruded polystyrene (XPS) core protected by a modified cement coating. This structure has successfully morphed from its use primarily as a tilebacker board to being offered in the form of basins and wall niches; as well as many bathroom specialists employing the versatile product to create seating, steps and vanity units.
NHBC Guidelines
The tightening of NHBC guidelines on using plasterboard or other vulnerable materials in wet areas, has led many consultants and contractors to make increasing use of Multiboard together with Marmox’s ancillary fixing products as a proven solution. Completed before Technical Guidance 9.2/06 came into force, a major residential rebuild and extension contract saw building contractor, M & M Team, make full use of the Marmox range to renovate and extend a large family home for clients on the outskirts of Watford.
The 4,000 square foot property features a stylish kitchen, dining room and living space as well as a fully equipped gymnasium. Helping shape these spaces within what was originally a mid-20th century building, M & M’s operatives used hundreds of square metres of Marmox Multiboard, Soundboard and – following its launch the previous year – the manufacturer’s Class 1 rated, non-combustible Fireboard. All the Marmox boards, together with the special adhesive, fixing washers and other products were purchased through Pro Tiler in Northampton.

The site manager for M & M Team, Wojtek Malyszko, commented: “While I have used other types of backerboard in the past, it was the owners – together with their architect – who identified the Marmox from searching online. Basically, they identified it as a much more waterproof solution than moisture-resisting plasterboard.”
