Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions is celebrating a remarkable double triumph after securing two major accolades at the 2025 British Healthcare Trades Association Awards.
The company, known for its accessible baths and bathroom solutions, claimed both ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Product of the Year’ at a ceremony held at Sheffield’s prestigious Cutlers’ Hall.
The annual event brought together leading figures from across the healthcare sector, recognising innovation, excellence and resilience during what has been another challenging year for the industry.
Abacus emerged victorious in both categories it was shortlisted for. Liam Bembridge, recently promoted to Head of Product Development at Gainsborough Healthcare Group (the parent company of Abacus), was named ‘2025 Rising Star’. His award opened the evening’s proceedings and was met with warm applause from the audience.
Speaking after receiving the accolade, Bembridge said he was “honoured” by the recognition. He described his role in research and development as the “ideal platform” to expand his engineering expertise and contribute to the creation of next-generation accessible bathing solutions. He added that witnessing the positive impact of Abacus products on people with disabilities was “incredible”, and thanked colleagues for their support as he looked ahead to bringing further innovations to market in 2026.
Abacus’ success continued later in the night when its pioneering Gemini MX bath was named ‘Product of the Year’. Judges praised the model as one of the most advanced assistive bathing solutions currently available, citing its versatility, comfort and suitability for a wide range of semi-ambulant users.
The Gemini MX features an innovative dynamic mattress, dual-lift technology and a suite of adaptable functions designed to enhance user safety and improve carers’ working conditions. The model has achieved significant industry recognition since its launch, having also been awarded ‘Best in Show’ at the OT Show in November 2024.
National Sales Manager Ryan Wilkes accepted the award on behalf of the company. Reflecting on Abacus’ dual success, he said: “What a night. We would have been so proud to win one award, but two is quite remarkable. We dedicate this dual success to the whole Gainsborough team who have contributed to the product’s development, which is now changing lives across the UK and into Europe.”
CEO Peter Eckhardt and Finance Director Nicki Laight joined Bembridge and Wilkes in representing Abacus at the ceremony, marking what the company described as an unforgettable milestone in its ongoing commitment to improving accessible bathing provision.
