In alignment with the present trend towards well-being and a heightened focus on a more physically active way of living, the Designer Contracts team incorporated elements of nature into their interior design for a showhouse project at Cruden Homes’ recently established development in West Lothian. Situated on the fringes of East Calder, the picturesque rural setting of Wellwater Grove caters to individuals who relish outdoor activities, serving as the muse for the Tweed show home, a four-bedroom dwelling designed with a couple and their two children in mind. The residence’s spacious and peaceful interior is a testament to the growing desire for a lifestyle that prioritizes mindfulness and health.
Said designer Meg Eyre: “As we continue to see more and more eco-friendly spaces/ideas in the home, I really wanted to incorporate this into the scheme. The lounge, for instance, has some eco conscious items including plastic free fabrics.
“One of the main aims here was to create somewhere for an active family to rest and feel homely and the colours, along with the furniture choices in here, do just that.
“The dining / kitchen area was about creating a space for the whole family and their interests, somewhere that felt open with plenty of areas for them to eat together and entertain.
“I was also keen to merge it with the outside space and achieved this by using landscape artwork, faux plants and green colour choices. Continuing the sustainability theme, the benches and dining stools are recycled.”
Emphasis on the outdoorsy lifestyle can also be seen through the choice of décor upstairs.
With Edinburgh International Climbing Centre just a few miles away, the second bedroom has a ‘teenage dream’ rock climbing theme. A large-scale forest landscape wallpaper mural entices you into the room and sets the tone: the bed accessorised with walking boots, water bottles and climbing books. The clever use of stepped-up rock-climbing grips on one of the walls adds further drama to the room.
Over in the second child’s bedroom, it is horse riding that gets an outing with the design built around a young girl’s passion for ponies. Finished with soft pastels and a striking, half-height green emulsion to all walls, this room is full of fun details including a horse saddle.
Finally, it is calmness and mindfulness which takes centre stage in the main bedroom. Said Meg: “My main focus here was to take into consideration the mind, body and what it needs to unwind. The calming colours, along with the choices of styling and inviting artwork – used as a feature headboard – really creates a desirable space.
“My personal favourite is the study area – with its pops of colour in the styling along with a posture conscious desk that enables users to work standing up and considers any future back and neck problems.”
