In an industry often measured by the number of homes delivered, the most successful developments tend to be judged by something far more important: the communities they create.
Across the UK, housebuilders are facing growing expectations to deliver developments that don’t just provide housing. New builds must now support wellbeing, encourage connectivity and create places where people genuinely want to live. From regeneration projects and sustainable masterplans to thoughtfully designed neighbourhoods, today’s leading developments are helping redefine what successful housebuilding looks like.
These achievements were recognised at the Showhome Awards 2026. Our Housebuilder of the Year Award celebrated developments that are setting new standards for quality, sustainability, placemaking and community value.
Finalists for the Housebuilder of the Year Award
This year’s finalists represented four very different approaches to modern housebuilding, united by a shared commitment to creating long-term benefits for residents and local areas.
Buckland Homes‘ Welborne Development was recognised for its role within a wider vision to establish a sustainable new community. By combining high quality housing with green infrastructure, community facilities and carefully considered public spaces, the development demonstrates how large-scale schemes can create a strong sense of place from the outset.
In Kent, Quinn Estates‘ Grove Park showcased a balanced approach to residential development. They bring together contemporary housing, landscaped environments and community-focused amenities. The scheme reflects the growing emphasis on creating neighbourhoods that support both current and future generations.
Banks Group‘s The Cornfields in Yarm earned its place among the finalists through a development strategy centred on quality design and community integration. Attractive streetscapes, green open spaces and strong connections to the surrounding area have helped create a development that complements and enhances its local setting.
Completing the shortlist was Keepmoat‘s Bell College Site, a project that stands as an example of successful regeneration in action. Built on the former Bell College campus, the development has transformed a historic site into a vibrant residential community, delivering new homes while retaining a strong connection to the area’s heritage and identity.
The calibre of this year’s shortlist highlighted the significant role housebuilders continue to play in shaping communities across the country. These developments demonstrate the impact thoughtful planning, sustainable design and community-focused thinking can have on people’s lives.

The project was recognised for its ability to successfully balance regeneration, heritage preservation and housing delivery. The development breathes new life into a former educational campus and creates a thriving new neighbourhood. It also demonstrates how housebuilding can unlock lasting value for both residents and the wider community.
