Ibstock, the UK’s largest brickmaker, is celebrating a decade of awards success following the results of the prestigious 2015 Brick Development Association’s (BDA) Brick Awards, which took place on 18 November in London.
Seven projects using Ibstock bricks won awards in five categories, meaning that since 2005, 74 stunning builds featuring bricks from Ibstock’s wide-ranging portfolio of colours, textures, sizes and finishes have achieved award success – more than any other brick maker. This success follows a bumper 2015 shortlist which featured 62 construction projects using Ibstock bricks.
Now in its 39th year, the BDA awards are the premier showcase for the brick industry and are one of the longest running design accolades in the UK.
The winning projects showcase the scope of design excellence achievable through the innovative and creative use of brick and how Ibstock products are building the face of Britain. Ibstock bricks were used in the Best Housing Design for Trafalgar Place, which used Staffordshire Slate Blue Smooth and Laybrook Multi Orange. The Best Commercial Building award went to The Haven Hostel, which used Birtley Olde English and Birtley Olde Linear Range and was praised for how it unified indoor and outdoor space.
The Best Urban Regeneration Project recognition, which went to Laurieston Phase 1, used Ibstock’s Nevado Geel and the Volume Housebuilding Award went to three developments constructed by Taylor Wimpey using a wide range of Ibstock bricks including Marlborough Stock, Slate Blue Brindled Smooth, Crowborough Multi Stock, Ivanhoe Cream, Ivanhoe Olde Village, Laybrook Parham Red Leicester Multi Cream Stock and Leicester Red Stock.
As well as grabbing the headline award wins, an additional five Ibstock brick projects received judges’ commendations. These projects spanned three categories – Innovative Use of Brick and Clay (Ravenscourt House); Best Public and Education Building (Lyndhurst Primary School and The Lantern Community Crafts Workshop) and Best Housing Design Award (Laurieston Phase 1 and The Lawns).
