Plymouth is set to have a new housing estate, with a Victorian manor house in Plympton set to be demolished to make way for it.
Developer Burrington Estates have earmarked the dilapidated Colebrook House, located on Newnham Road, as a site for potential new homes.
Burrington Estates have acted upon this and have submitted plans to Plymouth City Council, which has detailed proposals for 14, four-bedroom, detached homes in the grounds of the house, as well as the gardens.
Apparently, the manor itself has been vacant for quite some time, and is also in a state of disrepair. In addition, the interior of the building has suffered heavy damage as a result of there being holes in the roof.
Mitchell Architects, who have designed the estate, put in their planning proposal: “A ‘traditional’ appearance has been chosen for the proposed homes. This is a reflection of the design concepts of the redundant Colebrook House.
“The use of grey stone on lower levels and hung slate to upper levels mixed with white render is in keeping with the House, as well as other nearby precedents. Windows are white UPVC, again in an appealing traditional style.”
Burrington Estates is hoping to have planning permission signed and sealed by March 2018, with a provisional construction date planned for August 2018.
