NHBC is the UK’s leading standard-setting body and provider of warranty and insurance for new homes. Our role is to work with the house-building industry to raise the standards of new homes and to provide consumer protection for homebuyers.
Industry-leading warranty
Established in 1936, NHBC is the home warranty provider of choice, currently insuring over 1.6m homes, with a market share of approximately 80%. Over the course of our history, we have provided warranty for around 30% of the total existing housing stock in the UK, which equates to over 7 million homes.
Independent, non-profit distributing
With no shareholders, we are able to invest in our purpose of raising standards to improve the quality of UK house-building. As an authority on the housing industry, active in research and development, we work with government and stakeholders to help shape housing policy.
Setting the standards for new home construction
To sell homes with NHBC Buildmark cover, our registered builders must comply with the NHBC Standards which set out the technical requirements for design, materials and workmanship in new home construction.
Technical support and guidance
We provide our registered builders and developers with technical support and assistance to help at every stage of new home construction to provide guidance on Standards, regulations, research and other technical issues.
