What attracted you to the industry? I started my career at a builder’s merchants local to me in Fulham, and in just 9 years I managed to work my way up and become the youngest Sales Director in the company… also industry wide! In fact, my career in merchanting was only made possible because someone gave me the chance to prove myself working front of house, on the counter, in admin, as well as pulling my weight in the yard. When I moved higher up the ladder, it became clear that our industry is very reliant on its people and whether entry level apprentices through to middle management and senior level, people are 100% your biggest asset.

If you had to completely change careers, what job would you do? Having pivoted from sales to become a specialist recruiter, digital storyteller, and podcaster, I am always looking for the latest thing to elevate what I do and how I do it. But given my passion for football and love of inspiring the next generation, I would still have to say my dream job would be playing Centre Forward for my team, Fulham FC. On a personal note, I really enjoyed being a Community Football Coach for Fulham a few years and more recently, I became the Mental Health Ambassador for Balls for Brains, a charity which encourages men in sport to start conversations about mental health and wellbeing through the power of team sports.

Can you describe success in 3 words? For me, success comes down to having fun and working with likeminded people and so I would have to say my three words are: Fun, Love, and Passion. Regardless of the industry you’re in, it always helps if you love what you do, can have fun every day and keep your passion alive!

If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? Possibly Sun Tzu, the famous Chinese military strategist who wrote The Art of War. I have a quote from his work in my office and it inspires me daily as it literally says, ‘Can you imagine what I would do, if I could do all that I can’. Given the world today, I would be interested to know if his perspectives have changed and whether he believes his guidance is as relevant now as when it was first written?

What was one of your favourite musicians or bands growing up? Growing up in the 80s and early 90s in London meant I was always going to have a variety of musical influences from Ska to the early Rave scene. I also remember Paul Weller and A Town Called Malice by The Jam being a huge hit on the football terraces when growing up. Away from that, UK garage and Hip-Hop featured regularly in our house and even now, So Solid Crew gets sampled by our family quite a lot as its hit song 21 seconds to go has become somewhat of a theme tune at home and work… Romeo done!
